Please answer through my profile page as I won't be able to check it here!

I have always dreamed of living in Hawaii.

Anyway the funny thing is...I have recently developed asthma due to the intense pollution here in Kathmandu. The Dr said the only way to get better is to leave Nepal. So my husband and I are trying to decide where to go. He is Nepali by the way and I am American. Go see his website it you like. www.nepalmandala.com it is for his graphic design company, Mandala Graphics. We are both 37 years old.

Anyway, my options are to return to NYC, because I have family there, or try to live my dream....Hawaii!!! I have been saying to Sherap all the time...let's go live in Hawaii!

But we are kind of afraid, since we have so little money...we hear it is hard to find jobs there and we would need to be employed within two weeks of arrival or we will go bust! So I was wondering if you have any ideas...being from there and all! If you look at my profile maybe you will see some of my qualifications although I am not sure if I wrote them clearly.

But basically this:

essential oils scent design
fresh spa products design
Photoshop
Ballet teacher for ages 3-10
excellent writer all styles
grant writing
office skills
Blues and jazz singer for hotel bands
contemporary and Celtic singing lessons ( I have MA from ireland)

My husband is an expert graphic and website designer.
So if you have any ideas that can help us to live the dream then you will truly be an angel from heaven for us!

Peace and Love,
MONK SEAL SIGHTED AT PUNALU`U
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED
September 19, 2007
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MONK SEAL IS ONE OF ONLY 2 FEMALE SEALS ON ISLAND
-- STAY AT LEAST 150 FEET FROM SEAL
-- PUNALU`U IS IMPORTANT HABITAT FOR MONK SEALS
-- PASSAGE OF RESOLUTION 169-07 PROTECTS HABITAT
According to Dr. Jason P. Turner, Assistant Professor Department of Marine Science University of Hawai'i at Hilo: "We need everyone's help in monitoring an endangered monk seal female that has recently been hauling out around Punalu'u. I developed the Hilo Marine Mammal Response Network in conjunction with NOAA and DAR and have several UH-Hilo students monitoring monk seals throughout the Big Island. The pup that was sighted at Punalu'u was born at Papaikou last summer and is one of only 2 female seals known to inhabit Hawaii Island. It is essential that we collect information regarding her whereabouts and protect her from well meaning visitors and tourists.
Any information people can provide regarding where the seal is located would be greatly appreciated. You can contact me directly at 808-217-6812 (cell) or 808-933-3114 (office) or call the student network coordinator Melissa Netze (808-756-5961 -cell). Melissa will be surveying Punalu'u and areas around South Point tomorrow (Thursday 9/20) and would appreciate any information anyone can provide. She also plans to be down at the beach on Thurs., Sept 20th. Thanks and again I appreciate any help you can provide."
STAY AT LEAST 150 FEET FROM SEAL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

While seldom seen along the shores of Punalu`u, the Hawaiian monk seal (Ilio-holo-i-ka-uaua) is known to use the area as a habitat and has been sighted along the coast of Ka`u. Researchers are discovering that the population of monk seals in the main Hawaiian islands is less than fifty, but may play a critical role in the survival of the species. The Hawaiian monk seal, Monachus schauinslandi, is Hawaii's only pinniped. It is a species that is considered endemic to the islands and is believed to have evolved there. The monk seal is one of Hawaii's two endemic mammals. Hawaii's only other endemic mammal is the Hoary bat.

PLEASE STAY AT LEAST 150 FEET FROM SEAL

PUNALU`U IS IMPORTANT HABITAT FOR MONK SEALS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The population of the Hawaiian monk seal is currently estimated to be between 1,500 and 1,200 individuals. They are considered an endangered species and nearly all live and breed in the remote Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. The monk seal is extremely sensitive to human activity. Mothers often abandon preferred pupping and haul out areas and even their pups prior to weaning, when disturbed by human visitors. Therefore, in order to help protect the species, it is important to enjoy monk seals from a distance, and give them the solitude they need to survive. Scientist believe the population in the main Hawaiian islands may be increasing, making the isolated and sandy coves around Punalu`u critically important to the monk seal's survival as it is one of the last undeveloped beaches left in Hawai`i.
Learn More About the Critical Habitat at Punalu`u
PASSAGE OF RESOLUTION 169-07 PROTECTS HABITAT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Just two days after the Monk Seal was sighted at Punalu`u, the Hawaii County Council passed Resolution 169-07 that will protect this important habitat at Punalu`u forever.

I just bought an 8 cd set of Hawaiian language (not pidgen), printed up everything I could find on the language on the computer.

My point is, I love it, I want to speak with others, I want to live where it is spoken. Who speaks hawaiian here? Where could I live my life around it, or even use it in employment? I'm a cook, but then I thought, is there work involving this? But most importantly, I want it socially.

July 10, 2007

Aloha,

The fight to complete the Hawai'i 2050 Sustainability Plan continues. We were disappointed to learn that, despite the media spotlight (read the Honolulu Advertiser's latest story here) and the outpouring of community support for Hawai'i 2050, this morning the Governor vetoed HB 1270.

This critical bill will complete the Hawai'i 2050 Sustainability Plan, the state's first sustainability plan.

However, the state Legislature can overturn her veto. You can support the Hawai'i 2050 Sustainability Plan by contacting these legislative leaders:

Speaker of the House Calvin Say at (808) 586-6100 or repsay@capitol.hawaii.gov
House Majority Leader Kirk Caldwell at (808) 586-8475 or repcaldwell@capitol.hawaii.gov
Senate President Colleen Hanabusa at (808) 586-7793 or senhanabusa@capitol.hawaii.gov

Time is critical. The state Legislature will vote on whether or not to overturn the Governor's veto within the next few hours. Please take a moment to call or e-mail Speaker Say, House Majority Leader Caldwell and Senate President Hanabusa. Let them know that Hawai'i 2050 is vital to creating a sustainable future for our economy, our environment and our special Island culture.

Your voice will make a difference.

I am writing to give you a “heads up” advance notice of a Declaration that Nona Beamer is shortly going to email to President Bush and members of Congress (probably on Monday, April 16).

Auntie Nona is making Lahaina, Maui, her residence. She has many loving friends and family here on Maui (as well as many of you out there). For the past 2 months, she has been discussing Hawaiian culture with senior citizens on this island. It has invigorated her to the point that last Friday, April 6, in an “ohana circle,” she produced the powerful Declaration which I am attaching.

She feels an urgency to speak out and is willing to do so alone. After you have read the attachment, if you feel that you or the organization you represent would be inter-ested in adding your voices, she would be absolutely delighted to hear from you and would greatly appreciate a timely response. Nona’s email address is

beamerw001@hawaii.rr.com

The information to send should include 4 items: (a) your name; (b) city, island, state; (c) your status according to the following: 1 Native residing in HI, 2 Native residing out of HI, 3 Non-native resident of HI, 4 Non-native resident out of HI, and (d) date of your document. If there is more than one person, such as a family or small group, Response B of the attached Roll Call of Support shows how you could generate a list.

If you represent an organization that is large and the listing of names is not feasible, you may choose to make a statement as suggested in Response A of the Roll Call of Support.

Auntie Nona has authorized me to send you this Cover Letter and Declaration. May I assist you if there are questions or if the message must be re-sent on different software.
AUNTIE NONA'S LETTER:

TO:	President Bush
Members of Congress, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
FROM:	Ms. Nona Beamer, Kupuna and Kanaka Maoli (Native of Hawai‘i)
DATE:	April 12, 2007

DECLARATION:	 HAWAI‘I NEI, OUR HOMELAND

The fragile and sacred land of Hawai‘i is our precious heritage and our home. Even as we are struggling to maintain and restore U.S. damage to our land, the Government is continuing to desecrate more of Hawai‘i nei. This letter is my impassioned plea to STOP any further invasion of our sacred homeland.

Specifically, I am referring to the Advanced Technlogy Solar Telescope (ATST) to be erected on either Mauna Kea or Haleakalā. The plan is to excavate our sacred volcano 5 stories into the ground and scar our skyscape by an additional 14 stories. On O‘ahu, it is beyond reason that the sacred forests and landscape from Wahiawa to Kahuku are being ripped up to accommodate the monstrous Stryker tanks. There is no concern for the rare and endangered species of plant and animal life of Hawai‘i. There is utter disregard for ancient artifacts and sites.

I will point out that there has been irreparable damage to Kaho‘olawe which suffered U.S. bombardment since the 1940s. Kāne‘ohe Bay was once an important food source, the “breadbasket” of the people. It was dredged by the U.S. military and turned into a Marine Base. Our cherished Lē‘ahi, Diamond Head crater, has been ripped up and scarred and trampled on. Mokū‘ula, the ancient sacred fishpond in Lahaina, Maui, was fed by a freshwater stream. It was callously filled and destroyed. Other examples exist that are too numerous to mention here.

For over 100 years, the United States of America has shamelessly, for profit and personal gain, taken advantage of both the people of Hawai‘i and the land of our ancestors. Under President Cleveland, Queen Lili‘uokalani was illegally removed and sentenced to exile. In 1898, against the petitions of the people, Hawai‘i was annexed to the United States, and land was confiscated. During World War II, more land was confiscated for the use of the U.S. military. In 1959, when Hawai‘i became a state, the native voice was again ignored.

From the time I was born in 1923, I have been overwhelmed with the suppression of my culture, language and heritage. I learned, in the public school system and in the community, to be ashamed that I was “kanaka maoli,” (native of Hawai‘i). I could not learn the native language, as it was suppressed. The passing down of history through the hula had to be taught in secrecy. I endured these prejudices, and it has been my lifelong crusade to teach, “Be Proud of Who You Are!!” I have little time left to voice the injustices that have been done to the native people of Hawai‘i.

In 1984, I was appointed to the Native Hawaiian Study Commission by President Reagan. The Commission assessed the needs and concerns of the “kānaka maoli.”

President and Members of Congress
Page 2
April 12, 2007

Over twenty years have passed. The health of the native people is the worst in this state. The schools rank among the lowest in the nation. The needs of the native people are not being met, yet money is appropriated by the U.S. Government for the destruction of our land.

I am not alone in my plea. I have signatures of support not only from those of native ancestry (kānaka maoli); but also non-native residents who are Hawaiian-at-heart, and visitors who want our fair islands to remain a place of peace and healing.

Give heed to our voices. We have extended aloha to you, and you seek to extinguish our very being.

Respect us; be aware that we are a sovereign international nation. We are the descendants of a mighty civilization and deserve to be heard and acknowledged!

Around Merrie Monarch time - Filipe Tohi - a Tongan artist living in Autearoa - will be in Hawai'i to talk about his art.

Lalava is the old Polynesian art of lashing - which is/was a very functional activity done with all manner of materials - from sennit, to lauhala, to whatever. The most interesting thing about the art form - is that it is not strictly 2-dimensional - and that it has a "front" manifestation and a "back" one. It's like an oriental rug that has a front side and a back side - the sides being somewhat opposite from the other. However, lalava is more than just 2-dimensional - it may be 3-dimensional - and maybe it even has additional dimensions.

It contains, like Hawaiian stories, hidden meanings, philosophies, thought processes, multi-levels, and much more. The art provides a window to learn/study/practice the multi levels of Polynesian philosophy and world view. It boggles the western mind.

Filipe did a workshop in Hilo last year - to a standing room audience. And you should have seen some of the faces of those trying to understand what he was talking about. Jaws were dropping and little lightbulbs were flashing. The subject was close to be incomprehensible to many (of the western persuasion) - but everyone in attendence left with a new outlook on life and art.

If things go as are currently being contemplated (things are still in the planning process), a workshop is planned for Honolulu and a demonstration is planned for Waimea, Hawai'i island.

The demonstration in Waimea will take place on a newly constructed (but not finished) Hawaiian equivalent to an Autearoa marae - a melding of western architecture (outside) and a traditional Polynesian (Hawaiian) post and beam construction on the inside.

Watch for announcements and flyers that will be coming. However - not from me - as I'm leaving on an extended cultural visit to South America next week.

If you may be very interested - and don't want to risk not seeing a flyer, etc., maybe you can request to be added to an email list that you can propose - and I'm suggesting this without getting permission to do so and without giving any kind of notice (so be nice) - to - acurrie@hawaii.rr.com

Leo Hone

The paintings of Hawai'i artist (from 1970 -1979), Shari
Keleohoneakekahuli Martens Magno, are hanging in many countries
throughout the world, among them Denmark, England, Australia, Germany
and Canada. While painting was her first love, music became equally
important. Two years after the Alberta government aired a documentary
on her work as an artist, she laid aside her career in painting to
pursue musical studies. Artist and musician, Leohone holds a Master of
Arts degree from Norwich University in Vermont and a Fellowship degree
in Organ Performance from Trinity College of Music, London, England.
From 1982 onwards, she performed organ recitals extensively across
Canada and the Western U.S. until she retired from the concert scene
to Hawaii in 1989. Once settled, she inevitably found her way back to
her first love and has answered her call to paint.

Leohone is the hanai daughter of Paulie Keakealani Jennings, Executive
Producer of the World Invitational Hula Festival, E Ho'i Mai I Ka Pika
Hula. She is presently the Organist/Choirmaster at St. Peter's
Episcopal Church in downtown Honolulu and the Choral Director for the
Prince Kuhio Hawaiian Civic Club Chorale. She paddles with Anuenue
Canoe Club in Waikiki.

I am still absorbing the incredible life force energy I felt there, especially from Pele. And I've been waiting for the call to come back, and finally in a dream the call came to me a few weeks ago.

I've been to Kauai many times, and also made one trip to Oahu. When I'm in Hawaii, my whole body feels happy. The air, the land, the ocean, the laid back style...people ask if I am local.

Now I have been living in SF for 16 years, and as much as I complain about the city life, and lack of trees and nature here...it's a big leap for me to move away to the island.

I'm a writer, artist, and clairvoyant intuitive. I have two young cats I would be taking with me.

Going to Burning Man this year?

Calling all kama'aina on the islands and in the mainland, the 2006 Ka Pilina camp (aka the Hawaii Regional Embassy) has been officially registered with Burning Man and is open to accept camp members. The camp will be able to hold 150-200 members and it will again be organizing by small groups. This is the biggest and best home on the playa for island burners, whether it is your first time on the playa or not. This will only be the 3rd year for the camp but already our Friday sunset luau is a legend in Black Rock City, and this year's luau will be even better than ever. This is your best opportunity all year to meet burners from all the islands at once.

Go to www.kapilina.org/kapilina/tcamp06.html to get all the details about the camp and got to our Tribe (kapilina.tribe.net) to add your name to the signup list in the discussion forum. We have also created a new email list on Yahoo just for the Ka Pilina camp, you can join it by going here: groups.yahoo.com/group/kapilinacamp/.

We are planning on the 2006 Ka Pilina camp returning to the 4:30 area but being much closer to the playa without actually being on the Esplanade. We are going for the same type spot as in 2005 (2 corners on 4:30) but between the 2nd and 3rd streets (counting the Esplanade as the 1st) and slightly larger on the side opposite of 4:30. Check out the layout (www.kapilina.org/pix/06KP-...out01.gif) it is designed to have a large open art and performance and art car area in front while providing a more private camping area in the rear or center of the camp.

We need your help!

For the first time we will be asking for voluntary donations from camp members. The camp is NOT highly centrally organized and the whole thing really only works if small prepared groups come together to form our large community. So what is money needed for? What will you get for your suggested donation of $20? Well for one, any donation of $20 or more will get you a camp laminate, a t-shirt, and stickers, just for you (bag of schwag). This year we are going to face a need for storage for the first time as our camp has grown and we are beginning to strain the goodwill of individuals storing stuff for us for free. Storage will cost money. We also would like to do an art grant program for the camp to help subsidize art members are bringing to make our front public area come alive. Also the luau will cost some money for the pig and stuff like tables and such. In the end, the more money we can raise, the more we can do.

Donations are strictly voluntary, it is not a prerequisite for camping with us. It is up to you, if you want to camp with Ka Pilina on the playa and help make it the best it can be, or if you are not going and just support the art we are doing there please give us a camp donation by going to: www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr and remember, if our tax status comes through in a month or so, any donations for the past 6 months will be tax deductible.

So sign up for the camp today if you are in, we already have 42 confirmed members already and we are going to cap our camp at around 150. Help us bring some aloha to the playa see www.kapilina.org/kapilina/tcamp06.html for all of the details.

Te Vaka Steers Into Honolulu this Friday!

Don?t miss the boat! This is one canoe you need to be on . . .

For the first time ever in Hawaii, Polynesian communities will join together with na Kanaka Maoli and other friends in Hawaii to celebrate the season of Makahiki and Polynesian unity. Makahiki Pasifika Week began on November 19 with the Maohi Native Cultural Festival at Queen Kap?iolani Park and climaxes on November 25 with an exciting 7 p.m. concert at the Waikiki Shell starring Te Vaka, the world-renowned contemporary Polynesian band.

The band?s name, Te Vaka , translates into ?the canoe? in the language of the homeland of many of the band members, Tokelau. Their show, with its high-energy percussion rhythms and soaring melodies, transports the audience into the soul of Pasifika. ?It?s a 10 on the rapture scale!? reports one reviewer.

Hawaii?s not-so-distant cousins ? from Tokelau, Samoa, Aotearoa (New Zealand), Cook Islands and Tuvalu ? will paddle their vaka into Honolulu for one highly anticipated show. Tickets are on sale now at the Blaisdell Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets. Ticket prices are $10 for children 12 and under and $20 for adults in the lawn area, and $25 and $30 for reserved seating. Ticket prices are plus applicable service charges.

Te Vaka is a collective of eleven musicians and dancers ? eight men and three women ? whose signature sound is explosive Polynesian rhythms with breathtaking synchronization. Numerous world tours and three acclaimed CDs have given the band an ever-growing worldwide renown. Te Vaka ? live - unlike anything you?ve ever experienced before; its foundations are the ancient rhythms of Polynesia and the messages speak to the passions of Pasifik people today.

Te Vaka?s songs tell the stories of the region, from the ancestors who traveled across the largest ocean on the planet in their voyaging canoes, to the current threats to many of the smaller Pacific Islands such as Tokelau and Tuvalu due to the effects of global warming and the decimation of indigenous fisheries by the huge pirate fishing fleets of distant nations. There are songs about the issues of the diaspora of Pacific peoples, HIV-Aids and its devastating effects on the region, an ode to Greenpeace founder David McTaggart for his stand against nuclear testing in the Pacific and, of course, songs that celebrate many aspects of traditional island life.

Jon Osorio will open the concert! AND, to add to the event?s excitement, a drawing for two free roundtrip tickets to New Zealand, courtesy of Air New Zealand and Business and Leisure Holidays, will be held on stage at the concert. The concert, presented by Pasifika Foundation, will benefit the foundation?s programs. For more information: www.pasifikafoundation.org

See you there . . .

We have heard from a couple of people today that Senator Inouye might
be willing to support a weaker version of the McCain/Senate anti-
torture amendment. This could potentially be VERY damaging. Please
help us ensure this gets distributed widely and quickly throughout HI.
Visits to district offices would be really powerful and calls are
encouraged, too.

Senator Inouye is the ranking member of the conference committee
negotiating the DoD spending bill, to which the Senate anti-torture
amendment is attached. That is why it is so vital that he does not
waiver on this and supports the amendment being retained "as is". He
did vote favorably for the amendment early this month in the Senate
as you will see in the action...

................Here's what's going on, and what you can do...........
No Exceptions in the Prohibition on Torture and Ill-Treatment!

On October 5th the U.S. Senate demonstrated important leadership in
acting to stop torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading
treatment in the context of the U.S.-led "war on terror". By an
overwhelming vote of 90-9, the Senate passed an amendment offered by
Senator John McCain to the Department of Defense appropriations bill
to establish minimum uniform guidelines for treatment of detainees
and affirm the prohibition on torture and other cruel, inhuman and
degrading treatment.

While this is a victory, there is still important work to be done to
seal this principle. The House and Senate have different versions of
the Defense appropriations bill, requiring the legislation to go to
a "conference committee" that will reconcile the two versions and
agree on a final text. In addition, the amendment may be offered on
the Department of Defense Authorization bill which may be brought
back up for debate in the coming weeks. It is crucial that the
Senators and Representatives who are assigned on the Appropriations
Committee and the Armed Services Committee hear the message that they
must retain the Senate anti-torture amendment as is. There is a
danger that the amendment could be revised to be harmful and contrary
to the treaty against torture and to U.S. principles by exempting the
CIA, allowing for a presidential waiver, or placing other
qualifications that would be damaging as the administration has
requested. We will need to keep the pressure on to ensure the Senate
anti-torture amendment remains as is for the final version of any
bill it is attached to and that the President signs it into law.

What you can do next:
Call or visit the district offices of Senator Daniel Inouye. Senator
Inouye is the ranking member of the conference committee that is
negotiating the Department of Defense spending bill to which the
Senate anti-torture amendment is attached. His district office

Senator Inouye's Washington DC Office can be reached by calling the
Capitol Hill switchboard at 202-224-3934. Be sure to take action by
Friday, November 4th as it is expected the conference committee will
potentially finish negotiations around this date.
What to ask:
· Thank him for voting in favor of the Senate anti-torture
amendment earlier this month.
· Ask him to now work to ensure the Senate anti-torture
amendment is retained as is by the conference committee and to
encourage the President to sign it into law, without any revision to
the text passed by the Senate.
· Tell him the United States must stand without exception for
the principle of human decency and against the use of torture and
other forms cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment.
· Emphasize that any attempts to create exemptions for the CIA,
a presidential waiver on the ban, or other qualification would put
the US government in a position of authorizing inhumane treatment of
detainees, in violation of core US principles and existing
obligations under US and international law.
· Also, take the opportunity to reiterate support for Congress
to establish a fully independent commission to investigate all
allegations of torture and ill-treatment by agents of the U.S.
Government around the world.

MAHALO for your efforts in securing this victory! if you are interested in getting more involved in lobbying to denounce torture and for all human rights, please contact Cecilia Lipp with Amnesty International at clipp@aiusa.org

Honolulu Advertiser Columnist Wayne Harada says, ?Kāwika Alfiche, a San Francisco-based kumu hula and artist, is to his city what Keali?i Reichel is to Maui: an inspiration to his culture. This array includes numerous originals that offer peeks into his life, ?Mele and oli alike are nourishing, reflecting aspects of everyday life; ?Kaleili?i? was penned while putting a baby to sleep, ?E Ola Hilo? anticipated a trip, ?Na Mauna Ho?oheno? recounts a visit to the mountains of the Big Island, ?Hōkūlani? pays homage to Hōkūlani Holt-Padilla of Maui.
?N?lei? is a beautiful collection of original Hawaiian music that keeps true to tradition. Featured on this 14-track compilation are ?E P? Mai Ka Makani?
(?Gentle Breezes Blow My Way?) and ?H?k?lani? (?Starlit Heavens?) which are two of the 9 original compositions now playing on the airwaves in Hawai?i and on the mainland.

?N?lei? is not only the bringing together of beautiful harmonies but it?s also about ohana (family). Entitled "N?lei" in honor of K?wika?s late Uncle Roy N?lei Castro, the contemplative sounds of mele (music) and oli (chants) resonate with the theme of the CD: ?Embracing our past...guides our tomorrow? which expresses the idea of preservation, perpetuation and
Kim Taylor Reece, Winner of the PIFA (Pacific Islander Festival
Islander Festival.

Kim Taylor Reece, Hawaii's foremost fine art photographer, has
been studying hula kahiko for nearly 25 years. A catalyst of
Hawaii's Cultural Renaissance, his photography captures the
mystery and magic of this dance, which for generations has excited
the imaginations of people around the world.

In his research, Kim has traveled with the Hawaii State Foundation of
Culture and the Arts, enabling him to study and work with dancers from
more than 37 different Pacific Islands. His extensive research of
costumes and dances of the early Hawaiians captures the spirit and
essence of this ancient ritual.

His unique style has established the visual standards for hula kahiko.
As millions encounter Kim's work everyday, it helps to preserve
the hula and enrich lives with his fine art photography.

Kim's award winning photography has brought him worldwide
recognition. Over the years, Kim has received 15 Pele Awards
(communication and arts), Print Magazine Awards, Kahili Awards (HVCB),
Travel Journalism Awards and National Community Service Awards. His
images have been acquired by collectors, dignitaries, and museums
internationally.

He studied art at Long Beach State in California and because he is
color-blind was told to "change majors or be a starving artist". He
uses it to his advantage in capturing the subtleties of the kahiko in
black and white. He uses sepia tone to represent the timelessness of
the dance. Kim has been publishing his art prints since 1983.

Kim has a gallery at Sacred Falls, Oahu, Hawaii. "The beauty in nature
of the lush green valley and the striking blue ocean exemplifies what
I am trying to portray through my work." Says the artist of his remote
location.

For those who appreciate hula, Kim Taylor Reece has devoted his
talents to the celebration of Hawaii's ancient dance.
