Back in 2001 I went to the big island for the first time. I was called there. It was my birthday when I finally arrived. I am still absorbing the incredible life force energy I felt there, especially from Pele. And I've been waiting for the call to come back, and finally in a dream the call came to me a few weeks ago.
I've been to Kauai many times, and also made one trip to Oahu. When I'm in Hawaii, my whole body feels happy. The air, the land, the ocean, the laid back style...people ask if I am local.
Now I have been living in SF for 16 years, and as much as I complain about the city life, and lack of trees and nature here...it's a big leap for me to move away to the island.
I'm a writer, artist, and clairvoyant intuitive. I have two young cats I would be taking with me.
I'm curious, and looking for some encouragement to follow my dreams.
mahalo and light,
Jeannie

Re: dreaming about moving to big island...
Wed, April 12, 2006 - 9:38 PMthe big island is the most amazingly beautiful island, in the sense that it has the most variety.
homes in that area are quite affordable too in comparison to the other islands. -

Re: dreaming about moving to big island...
Thu, April 13, 2006 - 5:59 PMYour statement might have been true 10 or 20 years ago.
While it may be a bit true today - real property values have really changed.
For instance, 2 acres bought in Fern Acres (outside Mountain View) might have cost you 6,000 in 1990 - the tax assessment on that place this year is probably closer to $60,000.
OK - you got me. There is no way $60,000 could buy a couple of acres on O'ahu. At least you could on Hawai'i island. Guess I'm just spoiled - by considering the "bargains" of yesteryear.

a yearning ... as you felt emanating from the very ground. unending peaceful vitalizing so utterly vibrantly cleasingly beautifully alive. if you feel pele calling to you ... go. the focus that is you within the web of existance dances on this earth within the urges of your heart and it may be your hearts urge is to dance within peles arms. pele does not welcome all. nor dance with all. to miss such invitation is to court hearts despair..

Re: dreaming about moving to big island...
Fri, June 16, 2006 - 4:01 PMJeannie,
My wife (Marcia) and I were married on the Big Island and had the same feelings about the island that you have expressed. Marcia actually lived on Ohau 20 years ago, and also San Francisco. We are also talking about moving to Hawaii, but we are not rich and will not be able to afford a lot. What we have discovered is that we should not put this move off for long. Life can be so short, and following ones inner voice and passion we think is paramont in our lives.
The funny thing is that we may move to SF for a year on our way to Hawaii. Work issues are such that we can make the transision from SF to Hawaii quicker than from here, in Albuquerque.
As we make our way through the rest of our lives we may meet.
Good luck with your dream.
Jack & Marcia

Re: dreaming about moving to big island...
Wed, July 19, 2006 - 9:38 AMMy husband and I got a calling when we visited. Now we have a plan in place for moving to big island in 2007.
We have a cat and have talked to the vet about what we need to go through. It's a long process, but they know exactly what to do.
For me I've been adamant about never moving from Portland. But when we visited, Hawai'i felt like home and as my husband describes it - getting me on the plane to leave was like trying to get the cat into her kennel to go to the vet. We both felt a strong calling and are not happy unless we are following our plan to move.
So, my suggestion is to make a plan. You can always back out of it if something comes up to change your mind, but I bet you won't. =) -

Re: dreaming about moving to big island...
Thu, July 20, 2006 - 11:49 AMAs the title to this group says: "Hawaiians!"
If you move or not - you will realize it - sooner or later - that there is an "independence" movment that is growing slowly but surely.
But before realizing "that," maybe the best course of action - to give you a foundation of the "recent" history of the place (island, "state") is to check out Hawaiian history - especially from the first constitution around 1840, neutrality in 1850, the "illegal" overthrow of the Kingdom (Google "Apology Bill"), the fictitious annexation of Hawaii to the u.s., and "statehood."
As "annexation" cannot take place, at least under international law, by "Resolution" (a domestic instrument - with or without the force of law - but ONLY within the boundaries of the "sponsoring" nation) - the so-called "Annexation" was a sham.
Bottom line - under international law - Hawai'i is being belligerantly occupied (like Iraq) by the u.s.
So whether you like hearing this or not - or whether there is an independence movement that is alive and well - you need to know how and where you will fit into the "fabric of a place called Hawai'i."

Re: dreaming about moving to big island...
Sat, July 22, 2006 - 12:11 PMThanks for the information.
I'm aware of the independence movement. We've come across it frequently on the internet. Though I do know a little bit about the history surrounding that, I am wanting to learn more. However, whatever happens as far as the movement, I'm hoping to be accepted into the "fabric of a place called Hawai'i" through my interest in the culture.
My husband and I have been reading about Hawaiian culture, legends, history, and basically anything we can find about the place. When we were visiting, some of the most meaningful times were when we talked with locals about the history and legends of the area and when we visited two heiau.
The first several times I heard "Hawai'i '78" by IZ, it was hard for me to keep from crying. The land there has something special to it, and I don't want to see it destroyed by "development".
We don't fit into typical mainstream American culture at all. The Hawaiian culture seems to much closer to what I'm looking for, and we feel an irresistible draw to the culture. I'm hoping to learn the Hawaiian language, to learn hula, and to raise my children in the culture.
