Going to Burning Man this year?
Calling all kama'aina on the islands and in the mainland, the 2006 Ka Pilina camp (aka the Hawaii Regional Embassy) has been officially registered with Burning Man and is open to accept camp members. The camp will be able to hold 150-200 members and it will again be organizing by small groups. This is the biggest and best home on the playa for island burners, whether it is your first time on the playa or not. This will only be the 3rd year for the camp but already our Friday sunset luau is a legend in Black Rock City, and this year's luau will be even better than ever. This is your best opportunity all year to meet burners from all the islands at once.
Go to www.kapilina.org/kapilina/tcamp06.html to get all the details about the camp and got to our Tribe (kapilina.tribe.net) to add your name to the signup list in the discussion forum. We have also created a new email list on Yahoo just for the Ka Pilina camp, you can join it by going here: groups.yahoo.com/group/kapilinacamp/.
We are planning on the 2006 Ka Pilina camp returning to the 4:30 area but being much closer to the playa without actually being on the Esplanade. We are going for the same type spot as in 2005 (2 corners on 4:30) but between the 2nd and 3rd streets (counting the Esplanade as the 1st) and slightly larger on the side opposite of 4:30. Check out the layout (www.kapilina.org/pix/06KP-...out01.gif) it is designed to have a large open art and performance and art car area in front while providing a more private camping area in the rear or center of the camp.
We need your help!
For the first time we will be asking for voluntary donations from camp members. The camp is NOT highly centrally organized and the whole thing really only works if small prepared groups come together to form our large community. So what is money needed for? What will you get for your suggested donation of $20? Well for one, any donation of $20 or more will get you a camp laminate, a t-shirt, and stickers, just for you (bag of schwag). This year we are going to face a need for storage for the first time as our camp has grown and we are beginning to strain the goodwill of individuals storing stuff for us for free. Storage will cost money. We also would like to do an art grant program for the camp to help subsidize art members are bringing to make our front public area come alive. Also the luau will cost some money for the pig and stuff like tables and such. In the end, the more money we can raise, the more we can do.
Donations are strictly voluntary, it is not a prerequisite for camping with us. It is up to you, if you want to camp with Ka Pilina on the playa and help make it the best it can be, or if you are not going and just support the art we are doing there please give us a camp donation by going to: www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr and remember, if our tax status comes through in a month or so, any donations for the past 6 months will be tax deductible.
So sign up for the camp today if you are in, we already have 42 confirmed members already and we are going to cap our camp at around 150. Help us bring some aloha to the playa see www.kapilina.org/kapilina/tcamp06.html for all of the details.
